Spring is right around the corner, which means your Airstream RV’s break is just about done! If it’s been winterized properly, that means taking a few steps to help it shake off the frost. We here at Airstream of Utah are as excited for spring as you are, so we’ve put together some RV dewinterization tips for you.

Visual Inspection

Like any maintenance procedure, you’ll start off by giving your RV a thorough once-over. Look for cracks in the roof and its seams or missing sealant, and make sure all the corners are still sealed properly, too. If you find any water damage, mold, mildew, or other buildup, take notes and make sure it’s addressed before your first trip of the new year.

Cleaning

Next is a basic cleaning. Whatever your storage solution was, chances are your RV has some dust or grime accumulated on it. Besides being a bit gross, this gunk can cause damage over time. Hose your RV off and scrub it clean for a nice fresh look and feel!

Air It Out

The air in your RV is probably stale at this point, so take the time to air it out. Open up windows, doors, and slide-outs to get fresh air circulating while you move on to the next step.

Tire Care

Your tires can get surprisingly beat up over long storage periods. Make sure the air pressure matches the manufacturer’s recommendations in your owner’s manual and adjust it as necessary. Check the tread on all tires to make sure it’s still enough to drive with, and watch out for any cracks or damage in the side walls that might require a replacement.

Battery Care

Hopefully your battery was removed and hooked up to a trickle charger over the winter, but if it wasn’t, you’ll need to check it for cracks and charge. Cold weather can damage the casing and drain it past the point of recharging.

Fluids

You’ll want to check on all the engine fluids next. These should either be stabilized or simply drained before winter storage, so you’ll either want to top off, replace, or refill your antifreeze/coolant, windshield fluid, brake, and fuel tanks. If you have a generator, top off its fuel and oil as well.

Flush The Water Systems

Finally, flush any and all antifreeze and old water from the water system. Drain the fresh water tank and sanitize it, watching for any leakage. If all is well, fill it and you’re all set!
