Owning an RV is undoubtedly a source of pride and joy, especially when it comes to outdoor adventure. RVs are your second home when you’re out there in the wilderness, providing you with comfort and security as you are exploring the outdoors. However, those who’ve been on the road for more than several days understand that RV issues are inevitable, and a few things could go wrong. When that happens, it's essential to be conversant with some ways of maintaining your RV by troubleshooting some common problems that might arise. At Airstream of Utah, we’ve compiled the below guideline on some preventive maintenance tips to keep your RV moving and in good condition. RV Roof and Leak Repair

When RVing, water leaks are a possibility and pretty much inevitable. The elements have proven a force to reckon with, even for the modernized RVs. Sealants bow to the pressure and eventually harden and crack thus letting in water. Water has devastating effects on your RV’s interior such as staining, destroying the moving parts, rusting on metal fixtures and worse, causing serious short circuiting.

To prevent this, you should store your RV under a waterproof cover, preferably UV resistant to keep your finish seepage free and in an adorable state. Where possible, store it in an indoor storage facility or one with a roof. Although these covers aren’t inexpensive, they will significantly save you from major repairs if ignored.

You can also apply a new coat of RV roof sealant to deal with broken seals, one a year. Similarly, aim to inspect your RV for water damage before and after every trip, as well as anytime you want to store the RV.

Minor Issues with your RVs Electrical System

There are some minor electrical problems that can occur that you can handle without intervention. However, if you’re uncomfortable handling electrical issues, simply hire a professional. Some simple problems could include malfunctioning switches and push buttons that you can easily replace.

The same applies to outlets within the RV interior, which may malfunction due to loose receptacles. You can replace these with similar outlet boxes you use at home. Similarly, Rvers replace the RV batteries often when upgrading from generator to solar panel system. Use lithium batteries since they’re lighter, long lasting and require little maintenance and are relatively easy to install and set up if you have the necessary tools such as an RV power inverter.

RV Toilets and Water Systems</h2>

Common RV toilet clogs and backups are as a result of use error. Using a lot of toilet paper or little amount of water can prevent the camper potty from flushing properly. Therefore, ensure everyone knows the proper way of handling the system.

When clogs occur, simply snake the line from the RV’s exterior via the blacktank drainage valve. Leaky pipes need to be tightened. If you’re comfortable handling home pipe replacements, then you can also handle replacements of corroded or broken RV pipes. If you’re travelling to a cold area, ensure you winterize your rig to prevent the pipes from freezing. You can use a specially made RV antifreeze and use your RV water pump to distribute it throughout the system.
